towards a visual algorithm for horizontal leadership

Moving from a business function oriented management towards a leadership and organisation based deep cooperation to realise large technological change. This was the challenge for a Dutch insurance company, which would requir new ingredients like imagination, convincing narratives and new scores for performance.


For this challenge Stordes came up with the idea to work on what we called a visual algorithm for horizontal leadership.

The first step was the create new bonding between the members of the functionally dispersed management team. Individually held conversations about various pictures of art works helped to look with fresh eyes to one another.

We organised 24 self managed ‘menages à trois’ in various unusual settings. The conversations of three in different compositions started with eight themes, stretching from wokeness towards ‘my canvas, my brushes, my palet’ as a leader.

The team got to know each other on different levels of understanding and connection, shared their experiences and creates a sound base for the next steps in their leadership journey.


Stordes successfully looked for wonder, imagination and the meaningful personal connections as exciting and necessary additions to the reasoning and discipline of implementing a major technology and data driven operating model.
